BoldBellowsAI API evaluation, guardrails and monitoring for teams whose AI feature is judged by whoever tries it first

AI API evaluation, guardrails and monitoring that tests every change, blocks unsafe outputs and shows cost and quality drift early

An AI feature is checked with a fixed set of test cases whose expected results are known, run on every change to the prompt or the model, with guardrails that block unsafe outputs and monitoring that shows drift and cost. BoldBellows gathers a set of real inputs with the answers a careful person would give, writes down what the feature must never output and chooses the few numbers worth watching, before the prompt is changed again, runs the saved cases on every change to the prompt or model, blocks outputs that break your rules, watches cost, speed and quality in production and tells a named owner when a number drifts, then builds AI API evaluation, guardrails and monitoring in layers: a test set of real inputs with expected results is saved, a runner scores every candidate change against it and shows what improved and what regressed, guardrails check each live output for things such as leaked personal data, banned topics, invalid format or an unsupported claim, flagged outputs are held or replaced by a safe fallback, production logs record cost, latency and a selection of results for review, and an alert tells the owner when a number moves. Custom AI API evaluation, guardrails and monitoring can add human review queues and model comparisons.

Chapter 01 the Friday-prompt-edit problem

A prompt edited on a Friday afternoon is judged by the first person who happens to try it

Someone improves a prompt so that one awkward case works, and nobody checks the other ninety. A model version changes underneath you and answers get subtly worse. A customer is shown a reply that includes another person's details. The feature's cost per request doubles after a small change in length, and nobody notices until the invoice. There is no record of what the feature used to do, so nobody can say whether it is better or worse than last month. Confidence in the feature erodes quietly.

We changed the model and knew within an hour which answers had moved, instead of finding out from a customer.

Note from an AI product owner

Nobody ran the rest.

Save, run, compare

Real cases are saved, each change is run against them, and results are compared with the last version.

Guard, log, alert

Live outputs pass guardrails, requests are logged with cost and latency, and drift alerts the owner.

AI Team facts and AI guardrails behind the design

  • Test the prompt like code: An AI feature is checked with a fixed set of test cases whose expected results are known, run on every change to the prompt or the model, with guardrails that block unsafe outputs and monitoring that shows drift and cost.
  • Evaluation is what makes change safe: Because prompts and models change often, a saved test set is what lets you improve one behavior without silently breaking another.
  • Handling timeouts: A timeout triggers a search of AI Evaluation and Guardrails by the input, the expected result and the verdict, not another create.

Old news arrives after new

Each event carries its own time, and the route applies it only if it is newer than what AI Evaluation and Guardrails already shows.

A provider updates the underlying model and phrasing changes subtly

The nightly run scores the saved cases against the new version, the differences are listed, the owner reviews them, and the change is accepted or the prompt adjusted before users notice. With the input, the expected result and the verdict the route can say whether the work is missing, done, off, or unclear, and it says so in the log. Matching and differing records are handled separately; only a missing one is created.

Choosing the input, the expected result and the verdict is step one; the field map and the branches are built on top of it.

Chapter 06 The process

Six steps from edited prompts to a tested feature

A short, repeatable process of six steps, ending in a launch review.

  1. About 30 minutes

    Collect real cases

We gather real inputs and the answers a careful person would give, and list what the feature must never output.

  2. Access review

    Approve access

We arrange narrow AI Team access, confirm the model provider and its data terms, and settle how decisions are identified.

  3. Most of the project

    Agree metrics and alerts

The metrics, thresholds and the person who is alerted are written down and signed off.

  4. Before you review

    Test what goes wrong

Duplicate deliveries, slow events, blank fields and denied permissions are run in a test copy of AI Evaluation and Guardrails.

  5. Handover day

    Launch with notes

The last step is release: a defined start, a review window and a PDF you can keep.

  6. About 30 minutes

    Launch support

For a short period after launch we respond quickly to anything unexpected in the live route.

Chapter 07 Turnaround

How long the AI Evaluation and Guardrails packages take

Timing starts once access to the feature's prompts and logs and a set of real cases are available.

Chapter 08 Getting started

What we ask of you

Authorization to reach the AI Team objects in scope

Access to the AI feature's prompts and logs, a set of real inputs and the name of the person who owns quality

Test records in AI Team for the acceptance runs

Names of the people who decide when a failed request is valid

Your rule for what to do when AI Team and AI Evaluation and Guardrails disagree

A decision on whether history should be loaded or only new events

Chapter 09 Trust

A route that borrows access, never rewrites your tools

Access is limited to the AI Team objects in scope, the model gets a minimized view, and a person approves what changes anything.

Read-only AI Team to AI Evaluation and Guardrails access: your data stays yoursA project ledger under a glass cloche with a read-only tag hanging from the knob, meaning it can be looked at but never changed.Project ledgerEvery request, onceREAD-ONLYBehind glass: yours to look at, never to change.

Reversible by design

Because nothing inside AI Team or AI Evaluation and Guardrails is modified, switching the route off returns both tools to how they were.

Scoped, revocable access

Permissions are written down, minimal and reversible.

A purpose for every field

Each mapped field has a reason recorded beside it, so a later review can tell why it was sent.

Find first, write second

The route finds the test case through the input, the expected result and the verdict before choosing between create, update and leave alone.

Minimal logging

Evidence of a run is kept as references, not as copies of data.

Full handover

The PDF names each rule, credential and owner so your admins are never guessing.

"An AI feature earns trust by being tested the way any other software is, and the build brings that habit to prompts."

Chapter 11 Questions

Evaluation and guardrails: what product and engineering leads ask

We collected the questions that decide most purchases and answered them.

PriceTimeAccessHandover?Every question, answered
Do we need this if AI Team already has AI features?

To get AI features that stay reliable as prompts and models change, a connector will do. To test every change, block the unsafe output and notice drift early, you need a designed route. Each of those is covered, tested and handed over in writing.

What goes into the test set?

Real inputs with the expected results, including awkward cases and ones that must be refused.

What do guardrails check?

Format, banned topics, personal data and unsupported claims, according to rules you set.

What happens to a blocked output?

It is held or replaced by a safe fallback, and the case is logged for review.

Can it compare two models?

Yes. The same saved cases run on each, with results and cost side by side.

Which stacks does it fit?

Any feature calling a model API, with the integration confirmed in the quote.

What affects the price of evaluation work?

The size of the test set, the guardrails you need and the monitoring in scope fix one amount, which you see first.

Who approves the cases and rules?

The test set, rules and alert owner are drafted for your sign-off before any change is evaluated.

Will it fit how our AI Team work is organized?

Yes. Qualification rules, proposal types and approvers are all set to your process, from $1,835.

Can we swap the model provider later?

The handover lists every interface the route uses. If one changes, the affected item stops and is flagged instead of being written from a guess. Repairs after your review window are quoted separately.
