Chapter 01The flat-file problem

Klaviyo can only trigger on events it actually receives

A CSV upload gives Klaviyo a name and an email. It gives your flows nothing to trigger from, and your predictive analytics nothing but guesses.

Our win-back flow never fired because Klaviyo had no idea when someone's last order actually happened.

A sentence most BigCommerce sellers will recognise

No abandoned cart data

Without a cart event, Klaviyo's built-in flow has nothing to trigger from, so recovery emails simply never send.

Wholesale buyers in retail flows

A B2B account with a standing order gets the same "come back soon" email as a one-off retail shopper.

Predictions built on nothing

Klaviyo's predicted CLV and churn risk need real order history. A CSV of names alone gives it nothing to learn from.

After

maya@shop.com Placed Order: 3 days ago Started Checkout: today Predicted CLV: $840 Cart recovery flow triggered
Fig. 2b. Real events feed real flows, and predictions have data to learn from.

Before

  • No cart or checkout events reaching Klaviyo
  • Wholesale and retail buyers in the same flows
  • Predictive analytics with nothing to learn from
  • A CSV upload that goes stale the day it lands

After

  • Every order, cart and product view a real Klaviyo event
  • Channel-aware profiles, so flows fit the buyer
  • Predicted CLV and churn risk fed by real history
  • Profiles that update themselves as orders happen

Chapter 02How it works

What actually happens between BigCommerce and Klaviyo

Three parts, one direction. Your store stays exactly as it is. We read from it, shape it into Klaviyo's event model, and let your flows do the rest.

Your BigCommerce store Orders, carts, views Read-only access The sync we build Shapes profiles and custom events Real-time events Your Klaviyo Flows, segments, predictions
Fig. 3. A one-way street: BigCommerce out, Klaviyo in, nothing flowing back.

Your store: read-only

Read-only scopes cover Orders, Customers and Products and stop there. Everything relevant is visible; nothing about an order, a customer or a product can be changed.

The sync: careful, not just fast

A thin webhook alone never writes a Klaviyo event; a full API read comes first every time, so no flow ever fires on incomplete data.

Your Klaviyo: built to trigger

Events map to Klaviyo's own metric model, so your existing flows and any new ones you build fire correctly from day one.

Chapter 03What reaches Klaviyo

Every event your flows need, shaped correctly

Not a raw data dump. Each event carries the fields Klaviyo's own flow triggers expect, so nothing needs re-mapping on your end.

Profiles

Every buyer, matched by email, with channel and lifetime spend as profile properties.

Every package

Placed Order events

Order value, items and channel, shaped to trigger post-purchase flows correctly.

Every package

Cart events

Started checkout and abandoned cart events, ready for your recovery flow.

From Lifecycle Engine

From Lifecycle Engine

Predicted CLV & churn

Fed by full order history, so Klaviyo's own predictions are worth trusting.

Predictive Retention

Product-level tags

Every SKU a customer has bought, for accurate win-back and cross-sell flows.

Predictive Retention

VIP segment

Your top-spend customers, recalculated automatically as new orders arrive.

Predictive Retention

Sync health

A log of every run, so a missed event is traceable to a specific batch.

Every package

Chapter 04Who this fits

Built for the people who run Klaviyo as a revenue channel

If any of these sounds like your flows, a proper BigCommerce Klaviyo integration will give you data worth triggering on.

Lifecycle marketers

Flows that finally trigger on real behavior, not a stale CSV upload.

D2C and wholesale sellers

Channel-aware profiles mean B2B and retail buyers finally get separate flow logic.

Founders and owners

Predicted CLV and churn risk you can trust, because the data behind it is real.

Multi-channel brands

Retail, wholesale and marketplace buyers, each flowing correctly through their own logic.

Chapter 05The options

Comparing every route from BigCommerce into Klaviyo

Every option below can get a name into Klaviyo. The difference shows the first time a flow needs to trigger on something that actually happened.

CSV uploads, Zapier or Make, marketing apps, and this Klaviyo build, weighed against each other
Question CSV uploads Zapier or Make Marketing apps BoldBellows build
Real flow triggers No events, just names One event type at a time Varies by app Every event, shaped correctly
Predictive analytics fed properly No order history Recent events only Sometimes Full history from day one
Channel-aware profiles Manual tagging only Generic fields Varies Built around your channels
Cost as you grow Free, but hours every week Each event update can use a task About $30 to $300 a month One-off, from $625
Where it lives Your Klaviyo Your account, their platform Inside their app Your own Klaviyo account

A note on Klaviyo's own connectors. Klaviyo has no native BigCommerce connector, so most setups patch one together with Zapier, which struggles with the volume and variety of events a real lifecycle program needs.

The three packages differ by how many flows are triggered from real data and how deep the segmentation goes.

Profiles and core order events feed your existing flows with real data.

  • Customers synced into Klaviyo as profiles, matched by email
  • Order and cart custom events feeding your welcome and cart flows
  • Basic properties: first order, repeat buyer, storefront channel
  • A scheduled re-check on real cron that catches anything a webhook missed
  • Your own read-only BigCommerce API account, never a shared public app
  • Premium handover notes (PDF) covering every event and property
  • Two rounds of changes once you see real events arrive

Post-purchase and browse abandonment flows built on real product data.

  • Everything in the Flow Starter package
  • Post-purchase and browse abandonment flows triggered by real events
  • Segments built from product category, spend tier and channel
  • Channel-aware profiles, so wholesale and retail never share flow logic
  • Full purchase history brought in from day one, not just recent orders
  • Premium handover notes (PDF) covering every flow trigger
  • Three rounds of changes once it is running

Win-back, VIP and predictive-analytics flows fed by your full order history.

  • Everything in the Lifecycle Engine package
  • Win-back flows triggered by Klaviyo's predicted next-order date
  • A VIP segment refreshed automatically from real spend history
  • Product-level purchase events for accurate cross-sell flows
  • Multiple BigCommerce stores feeding one Klaviyo account if needed
  • Batched, rate-limit-safe syncing that never chokes on a busy sale day
  • Premium handover notes (PDF) covering every event, property and flow
  • Four rounds of changes once it is running

Several BigCommerce stores feeding one Klaviyo account, an SMS-specific event set, or a flow shape none of the packages above name. Tell us how your lifecycle program is structured and we will price it for your build.

Which custom events should feed Klaviyo?Required

More event types mean richer flow triggers and more accurate predictive analytics.

How detailed should segmentation be?Required

Deeper segments mean sharper flows, at the cost of a slightly more involved mapping to build.

Which flows should we wire up triggers for?Required

We connect the trigger data; you keep full control of the email and SMS content in Klaviyo.

How soon do you need it live?Required

Standard follows the schedule your other choices set. Pay to move up the queue and go live sooner.

Optional extrasOptional

Each one begins switched off. Turn on what your program needs, watch the total, switch it back off.

Chapter 06The process

From a short brief to flows that trigger themselves

Six steps. You spend about an hour in total, spread across the project, starting with about fifteen minutes to give access.

  1. About 30 minutes

    Brief: which flows matter most?

A short online brief. You show us your existing flows and which channels need separate treatment.

  2. About 15 minutes

    You give read-only access

You create a read-only BigCommerce API account and connect Klaviyo. We send step-by-step instructions.

  3. Most of the project

We build the events and flows

Your order history loads in, live events start flowing, and flow triggers build on top.

  4. Before you review

We check every event against BigCommerce

Order values, cart events and channel tags are matched to real orders before you see anything.

  5. Two to four rounds

    You review, we adjust

Watch real events tag themselves for a few days. Ask for new segments or a different flow trigger.

  6. Handover day

    Handover, and it keeps triggering

Premium handover notes as a PDF, explaining every event. The sync keeps going after we step back.

Roughly an hour of your time, none of it technical

  • Store admin access, to create a read-only API account
  • A Klaviyo account with private API key access
  • Your existing flows, if you have them, so we can feed them
  • Which flows you'd like built from scratch

Chapter 07Trust

Read-only, private, and yours to keep

Customer and order data isn't something to hand over carelessly, so access to yours gets handled with the same caution we'd expect for our own.

ProfileEvents a••••@••••.com2 events j••••@••••.com5 events s••••@••••.com1 event Read-only

Read-only API account

We can read orders and customers. We cannot change orders, products or prices, even by accident.

No sensitive fields synced

Events carry behavior, never card numbers or full addresses.

Named people only

Only the specific accounts you name ever get access to the Klaviyo connection, nobody else by default.

Remove access any time

Revoke the API account or disconnect Klaviyo and our access ends that minute.

No copies kept

The sync moves data from BigCommerce to Klaviyo. We don't keep copies on our servers.

Yours, with no subscription

The events, flows and segments live in your Klaviyo account. No monthly fee to keep it running.

"We wire up every event by hand, and check it against real orders before it ever triggers a flow."

Chapter 09Questions

BigCommerce to Klaviyo questions, answered

The things store owners ask us most before they start. Anything else, ask in your quote request.

Do you write the flow content, or just the trigger data?

We build the data pipeline: the events, the properties and the trigger conditions. You keep full control of subject lines, design and copy inside Klaviyo, and we can also set up the trigger logic for the core flows if you'd like us to.

Can abandoned cart flows really work off this?

Yes. We read cart activity through the BigCommerce API and write it as Klaviyo's Started Checkout event, exactly the shape Klaviyo's own cart recovery flow expects.

Will our predicted CLV and churn risk actually be accurate?

Much more accurate than starting from nothing. BigCommerce doesn't cap the Orders API to a rolling window, so we can backfill full purchase history, giving Klaviyo's predictive models real data to learn from.

Why not just use a BigCommerce to Klaviyo Zapier setup?

Zapier handles one event type per zap and struggles with volume once you add cart events, product views and order updates together. Each update can also use a task, so cost climbs with your order volume. We build the full event set with no per-task cost.

Will our wholesale and retail buyers stay separate?

Yes. Every profile carries its BigCommerce storefront channel, so you can build separate flows and segments for retail, wholesale and marketplace buyers.

Is my customer data safe?

We only ask for read-only access to BigCommerce, so we cannot change orders, products or prices. We don't keep copies of your data, and you can remove our access at any time.

Am I locked in, and can we add things later?

No lock-in. Everything lives in your Klaviyo account and keeps running without a subscription. You can come back any time for SMS event mapping, another store, or a deeper segment.
