BoldBellowsDone-for-you BigCommerce shipping automation

BigCommerce to ShipStation, labels printed, tracking written back

Our BigCommerce to ShipStation service pulls every order in ready to ship, rate-shops it across the carriers you connect, and writes the tracking number straight back to the order the moment a label prints. Multi-Storefront sellers get each channel routed to the ship-from location and carrier rules that fit.

Chapter 01The retyped-address problem

Every order retyped is a chance to ship it to the wrong place

A manual ShipStation import means copying an address, weight and item count by hand for every order, and a tracking number that has to be pasted back in separately.

We shipped an order to the billing address because nobody caught that shipping was different, again.

Something most BigCommerce sellers have said out loud before

Addresses copied by hand

A busy morning means a typo in a street number, and a package that never reaches the customer.

One carrier, whatever the order

Without rate shopping, a light envelope ships on the same service as a heavy box, at the same rate.

Tracking pasted in separately

A customer asks where their order is because the tracking number never made it back to BigCommerce.

Before

After

ShipStation (synced) Order #8102 · filled in Cheapest matching rate applied BigCommerce order tracking written back
Fig. 2b. Filled in already, rate-shopped, and tracking that writes itself back.

Before

  • Addresses and weights retyped for every order
  • One carrier, whatever the order actually needs
  • Tracking pasted back in by hand, or not at all
  • Customers emailing to ask where their order is

After

  • Every order arrives in ShipStation ready to label
  • The cheapest matching rate wins automatically
  • Tracking, carrier and ship date write back on their own
  • A customer can track their own order without asking

Chapter 02How it works

The BigCommerce-to-ShipStation link, without the jargon

Two directions, both built by us. Orders flow in ready to ship, and tracking flows back out once a label prints. Your store never needs a plugin.

Your BigCommerce store Orders, addresses, weights Order import The sync we build Fills, rate-shops, writes tracking back Tracking write-back Your ShipStation Labels, carriers, rate shopping
Fig. 3. Orders flow one way in, tracking flows one way back, nothing else touches your store.

Your store: scoped, not wide open

A first-party API account scoped to orders and shipment updates. It can read orders and mark them shipped, nothing more.

Precision matters more than speed here

A thin webhook alone never pulls an order into ShipStation; a full API read happens first, every time, so a label never prints on incomplete data.

Your ShipStation: ready to label

Orders arrive with address, weight and items already correct, so your team ships instead of typing.

Chapter 03What moves between them

Everything a shipping team needs, in both directions

Not a one-way dump. Orders arrive ready to label, and shipment details write back the moment a package moves.

Order import

Address, items, weight and channel, filled in the moment an order settles.

Every package

Rate shopping

Every connected carrier compared, the cheapest matching service selected.

From Multi-Carrier Automation

Tracking write-back

Tracking number, carrier and ship date land on the order the instant it labels.

Every package

Customer notification

A shipping email fires the moment tracking writes back, no manual send.

From Full Fulfilment Engine

Split shipments

An order shipping from two locations updates as each portion actually ships.

Full Fulfilment Engine

Branded tracking

A tracking page in your colours, not a generic carrier page.

Optional extra

Customs forms

International declarations filled in from the order's own line items.

Optional extra

Sync health

Every run gets logged, so a stalled import or a tracking number that never wrote back has a clear paper trail.

Every package

Chapter 04Who this fits

Built for the people who ship every order themselves

Any of this sound like your shipping desk? A properly built BigCommerce ShipStation integration is what buys that time back.

Warehouse and fulfilment teams

Orders that arrive ready to label instead of needing to be retyped first.

D2C and wholesale sellers

Rate shopping that treats a light retail parcel and a heavy wholesale pallet correctly.

Customer support teams

Tracking that's already on the order, not a question that lands in a support queue.

Multi-channel sellers

Retail, wholesale and marketplace orders each routed to the right ship-from location.

Chapter 05The options

Four ways to get BigCommerce shipping through ShipStation, side by side

Every option below can print a label eventually. The difference shows the first time a tracking number needs to make it back to the order on its own.

Four routes into ShipStation: manual re-entry, the native connector, Zapier or Make, and this custom build
Question Manual re-entry ShipStation's own connector Zapier or Make BoldBellows build
Tracking writes back automatically Pasted in by hand Usually, for standard fields Needs a second zap to build Tracking, carrier and ship date
Multi-Storefront routing One list, sorted by hand Basic store tagging only No native channel awareness Ship-from and carrier rules per channel
Custom carrier rules Chosen by hand each time ShipStation's own rule builder No rate-shopping logic Rules tuned to your weight and zone data
Cost as you grow Free, but hours every week Included in your ShipStation plan Task usage climbs with each run One-off, from $695
Setup and tuning None needed You configure it yourself You build and maintain the zap Built, tested and handed over to you

A note on ShipStation's built-in connector. ShipStation does offer a native BigCommerce connection, and it's a fine starting point. Where it stops is custom carrier rules by weight and zone, Multi-Storefront ship-from routing, and a tracking write-back tuned to exactly the fields your team relies on.

InterludeShipping worth trusting

Every order should arrive ready to ship, not ready to retype

Select a package and work through a short set of questions to lock in your price and turnaround before committing. Most setups are shipping-ready inside 6 to 17 working days.

Choose your packageRequired

The three packages differ by how many carriers rate-shop against each other and how much of the label workflow runs on its own.

Every order pulls into ShipStation, ready to label, with tracking written back automatically.

  • Every new order pulled into ShipStation with address, items and weight filled in
  • Tracking number and carrier written back to the BigCommerce order once shipped
  • De-duplication on order id, so a retried webhook never doubles an import
  • A scheduled re-check on real cron that catches anything a webhook missed
  • Your own scoped BigCommerce API account, never a shared public app
  • Premium handover notes (PDF) covering every field and mapping
  • Two rounds of changes once you see real orders land

Rate-shop across your carriers, with orders auto-assigned by weight and zone.

  • Everything in the Label Sync package
  • Up to three carrier accounts rate-shopped against each other automatically
  • Automation rules that assign a carrier and service by weight, zone and value
  • Multi-Storefront orders routed to the ship-from location that fits the channel
  • Batch label printing for your busiest shipping hours
  • Premium handover notes (PDF) covering every rule and carrier setup
  • Three rounds of changes once it is running

Unlimited carriers, branded tracking pages and full customer notification, end to end.

  • Everything in the Multi-Carrier Automation package
  • Unlimited carrier accounts, including regional and international options
  • A branded tracking page matching your store, not a generic carrier page
  • Split-shipment handling for orders that ship from more than one location
  • Automatic customer shipping notification once a label generates
  • Multiple BigCommerce stores feeding one ShipStation account if needed
  • Premium handover notes (PDF) covering every rule, carrier and notification
  • Four rounds of changes once it is running

Several BigCommerce stores feeding one ShipStation account, a warehouse-routing structure none of the packages above name, or a carrier none of them list. Tell us how your fulfilment actually runs and we will price it for your build.

How many carriers should rate-shop against each other?Required

Each extra carrier account we connect adds another rate to compare before a label ever prints.

How much of the shipping decision should run on its own?Required

Automation rules save the most time once your order volume climbs past a few dozen a day.

What should write back to BigCommerce once shipped?Required

BigCommerce webhooks arrive thin, so every write-back run confirms the order against the API before updating anything.

How soon do you need it live?Required

Standard follows the schedule your other choices set. Pay to move up the queue and go live sooner.

Optional extrasOptional

Each one begins switched off. Turn on what your shipping needs, watch the total, switch it back off.

Chapter 06The process

From a short brief to labels that print themselves

Six steps carry the build from brief to handover. Your total time investment runs about an hour, front-loaded with a fifteen-minute access step.

  1. About 30 minutes

Brief: your carriers and your rules

A short online brief. You tell us which carriers you use, your weight bands, and how Multi-Storefront orders should route.

  2. About 15 minutes

    You give access

You create a scoped BigCommerce API account and connect your ShipStation and carrier accounts, walking through it with our instructions in hand.

  3. Most of the project

We build the import and the rules

Order import starts flowing, carrier rate-shopping rules build on top, and the tracking write-back is wired in.

  4. Before you review

We ship test orders end to end

A real label prints on test data and we confirm tracking, carrier and ship date land correctly back on the order.

  5. Two to four rounds

    You review, we adjust

Ship a real day's orders through it and ask for changes to a rule or a mapping. Rounds included by package.

  6. Handover day

    Handover, and it keeps shipping

A polished PDF documents every rule we built, and the sync keeps importing orders and writing tracking back long after we step away.

None of this needs technical skill, just about an hour of your time

  • A store login good enough to set up a scoped API key
  • Your ShipStation login and carrier account credentials
  • Your weight bands and carrier preferences, if you have them
  • Which Multi-Storefront channels ship from which location

Chapter 07Trust

Scoped access, private, and yours to keep

Shipping needs more than read access, since tracking has to write back. We still keep that access as narrow as the job allows.

OrderTracking #8102written back #8109written back #8114pending Scoped access

Scoped, not wide open

The API account reads orders and marks them shipped. It cannot touch products, prices or payment details.

No payment data touched

Rate shopping and label creation never need or see a customer's payment details.

Named people only

ShipStation and carrier logins go to specific named accounts on your team, never a shared or generic one.

Remove access any time

Revoke the key or unlink ShipStation from your carriers, and the connection is gone that same minute.

No copies kept

An order goes into ShipStation, and tracking comes back to BigCommerce; nothing about either trip is archived on our side.

Yours, with no subscription

Every rule, carrier connection and mapping stays inside your own ShipStation account, with nothing recurring owed to us for it.

"Shipping needs write access to work at all, so we scope it as tightly as the job allows and check every write against real orders first."

Chapter 09Questions

BigCommerce to ShipStation questions, answered

The things fulfilment teams ask us most before they start. Got something else? Include it with your quote request.

Doesn't ShipStation already connect to BigCommerce natively?

Yes, and it's a reasonable starting point. Where it usually falls short is custom carrier rules by weight and zone, Multi-Storefront ship-from routing, and a tracking write-back tuned to the exact fields your team and customers rely on. We build those on top.

Why does this need more than read-only access?

Writing a tracking number, carrier and ship date back to the order is the whole point of the automation, so the API account needs a scoped shipment-update permission alongside read access to orders. It still cannot touch products, prices or payment details.

How does rate shopping actually work?

Every carrier account you connect is queried for a live rate on the order's real weight and destination, and the cheapest service that meets your rules wins automatically, without anyone comparing rates by hand.

Can you bring in orders that are already awaiting fulfilment?

Yes. The backfill extra pulls in every order still unshipped at go-live, so your ShipStation queue starts complete instead of only catching orders from launch day forward.

We run Multi-Storefront. Can ship-from location differ by channel?

Yes. Every order carries its channel id, so retail, wholesale and marketplace orders can route to the ship-from location and carrier rules that fit each one.

Does the customer get notified automatically?

On the Full Fulfilment Engine package, yes. A shipping notification fires the moment tracking writes back to the order, so nobody has to send it by hand.

Will an API update from either side break things?

The sync health log flags anything broken the same day it happens, no waiting around, and with the optional aftercare add-on we cover whatever an API change breaks for the following 90 days.

Will we get billed by you again after launch?

No, the build is a single payment. What you'll keep paying for afterward is whatever ShipStation and your carriers already charge, none of which flows through us.

Orders that arrive ready to ship, not ready to retype

Stop copying addresses by hand. Let a BigCommerce ShipStation automation pull every order in, rate-shop it, and write the tracking back, proven against your real orders and yours to keep. A couple of minutes gets you a real price, or tell us about a bigger setup and we'll scope it properly. It is also the answer to sync bigcommerce orders to shipstation, bigcommerce to shipstation zapier and bigcommerce shipping label automation.
