BoldBellowsA page label is not a campaign ID

An Elementor page's headline shouldn't decide Salesforce campaign attribution

Attributing a lead by copying whatever a page happens to be called breaks the moment marketing renames it. We carry a real, hidden campaign ID instead, verify it actually belongs to the connected Salesforce org, and only then create the Campaign Member, never a new campaign nobody asked for.

  • A renamed page never breaks attribution
  • A sandbox campaign ID never reaches production
  • Rolls out over roughly one to two weeks
Elementor Forms to Salesforce automation by BoldBellows: a hidden campaign ID verified against the connected Salesforce environment before a Campaign Member is created, with a sandbox-environment ID blocked from reaching production

What verified attribution has to survive before Salesforce sees it

  • The campaign ID verifies firstbefore any record writes
  • The right environmentnot a sandbox ID gone astray
  • A person resolves cleanlyno duplicate Lead beside a real Contact
  • An Opportunity is earnednot created from every submission
  • A failed upsert gets a second chancetied to the submission it already logged

01The label-attribution trap

Marketing renames pages. Attribution shouldn't notice

A webhook that reads a page's visible headline to guess the campaign breaks the instant that headline changes for an A/B test, and has no way to tell a sandbox ID from a real one. Sound familiar?

"We A/B tested the headline, and every lead from that page lost its campaign."

Attribution keyed to visible page text stopped matching the moment the copy changed for a test.

"A sandbox campaign ID from a staging test ended up in production."

Nothing checked whether the ID belonged to the org actually receiving the record, so it wrote anyway.

"Every form submission somehow became a new Opportunity."

Without a real qualification check, an inbound question got treated with the same weight as a genuine deal.

Attribution is a claim you're making to your own revenue reporting. A page's visible headline was never built to be a source of truth for that claim.

Same Elementor landing page, before and after an A/B headline test. The difference is whether attribution rides on a hidden, verified campaign ID, or on whatever text happens to be visible that week.

Before

Attribution rule Keyed to: page headline text Environment: never checked
  • An A/B test silently breaks attribution
  • A sandbox ID can reach production unchecked
  • Every submission becomes an Opportunity

After

Contact: J. Reyes Campaign: Fall Promo, verified ✓ Hidden ID matched to the connected org ✓ Matched to existing Contact, not duplicated ○ Opportunity opened only once qualified
  • Headline copy can change without breaking anything
  • A wrong-environment ID is caught before it writes
  • Only a genuinely qualified case opens a deal

02How it works

How a submission earns a Salesforce write

The hidden campaign ID gets verified against the connected environment first, the person gets resolved to a Lead or Contact second, and only then does the Campaign Member write, with an Opportunity created only when the submission's own fields actually qualify.

A mismatched ID routes to quarantine here STEP 1Verify the campaign The hidden ID is checkedagainst the connected org STEP 2Resolve the person Explicit matching decidesLead versus existing Contact STEP 3Member written Status set on thecampaign, nothing invented STEP 4Opportunity, if earned Only a qualifiedcase ever opens a deal STEP 1Verify the campaign Checked against the org STEP 2Resolve the person Lead versus Contact decided STEP 3Member written Nothing new invented STEP 4Opportunity, if earned Only when qualified A mismatched ID goes to quarantine here
There's no assumed attribution here. A Campaign Member only exists once the ID behind it is actually verified.

Elementor and Salesforce object quirks

  • CampaignMember and Opportunity are genuinely separate objects. Salesforce keeps them related but distinct, which is exactly what makes it possible to record campaign response without a deal being forced into existence.
  • Salesforce upsert supports a submission itself as an external ID. That's what makes it safe to resend or retry a submission without worrying about creating a second record for the same event.
  • A hidden field only carries what someone put there. Elementor's form fields don't validate a campaign ID against Salesforce on their own, so a stale or wrong-environment value would otherwise reach the destination unchecked.

03Inside the attribution build

What each record carries, and how the campaign check runs

Campaign Intake starts with one registered form and a campaign allowlist. CRM Routing adds explicit person resolution and a full CampaignMember writer. Salesforce Control adds Opportunity qualification and an environment mismatch guard across the whole build.

04Who it's for

Built for revenue teams that trust their attribution numbers

Salesforce campaign managers, demand generation directors, CRM architects and sales operations leads who need campaign attribution and pipeline to reflect what actually happened.

Salesforce campaign manager

Reports on campaign performance and needs attribution to hold through every A/B test.

Demand generation director

Launches new campaign pages weekly and needs each one's ID verified before it ever writes.

CRM architect

Wants a hard separation between campaign response and a genuinely qualified Opportunity.

Sales operations lead

Would rather quarantine a bad campaign ID than untangle a mismatched sandbox record later.

05Compare

Label-based attribution vs a generic Lead-creator vs BoldBellows

Turning a submission into a Lead is a five-minute API call. Confirming the campaign behind it is real, current and from the right environment is the check most builds skip entirely.

The stale-ID trap

A hidden campaign ID left over from an old page template no longer matches anything real. Person resolution and the campaign allowlist together catch this before a phantom record ever writes.

The duplicate-person trap

A submitter matches both an existing Contact and a stray duplicate Lead. The environment mismatch guard diverts the ambiguous case before Salesforce receives conflicting data about the same person.

Multisite networks, custom Elementor widgets, regulated intake or several Salesforce orgs. Tell us the real scope and we will price it for your build.

How should the widget hand off to Salesforce?Required

Proof the record actually saved needs more than a single fire-and-forget post.

How should a submission be matched to a person?Required

A clone quarantine catches a duplicated widget a legacy match wouldn't.

How much Salesforce detail should each record carry?Required

An Opportunity and a mismatch guard need more work than raw submitted fields.

How soon do you need it live?Required

Standard follows the schedule your other choices set. Pay to move up the queue and go live sooner.

Each one begins switched off. Turn on what your rollout needs, watch the total, switch it back off.

06The process

Locking in verified campaign IDs before a record writes

Campaign Intake typically runs 3 to 5 working days, CRM Routing 5 to 8, and Salesforce Control 8 to 12. Chasing a specific campaign launch date? A quicker path is built into the pricing tool.

Your handover notes Every campaign ID, checked against the org How person matching decides Lead vs Contact What actually qualifies an Opportunity Who reviews a quarantined campaign ID Plain English, no jargon Build summary Test set: 34 submissions run Members written 31 Opportunities opened 4 Quarantined IDs 0 Ready for handoff
  1. Catalog real campaign IDs

We pull the actual, current campaign IDs from your connected Salesforce org, not guesses.

  2. Define person-matching rules

You tell us exactly how a submission should resolve against existing Leads and Contacts.

  3. Agree Opportunity criteria

We set what actually counts as qualified enough to open pipeline.

  4. Try to break it

A wrong-org campaign ID, a person who matches two records, and a submission that's borderline qualified all get thrown at it before launch.

  5. Go live and audit records

We check the first live writes by hand against the org before we hand it fully over.

Three things to have ready

  • A route into the WordPress site, whether that's live or a mirror.
  • A list of the campaigns each page should actually attribute to.
  • A Salesforce connected app with access to the correct production org.

07Security and ownership

Your verified campaigns, not your whole org.

Access is limited to the objects and campaigns this build actually needs. Everything else in the org, from unrelated pipelines to admin-level settings, stays outside what this build can touch.

Nothing about Elementor gets patched

Campaign verification hooks into the same form-action surface every other supported integration uses.

Unverified IDs write nothing

A campaign ID that fails the allowlist check never touches Salesforce at all.

Only cleared fields reach the record

Whatever didn't pass the sensitive-field review never leaves the WordPress site.

Connected-app secrets never touch the page

Salesforce API credentials are configured server-side, away from any widget.

A resend upserts, it doesn't duplicate

The submission's own external ID makes a repeat attempt land on the same record automatically.

The attribution logic is yours

You keep the allowlist, the qualification rules and the code after handoff.

09FAQ

Questions about verification, matching and Opportunities

Still unsure? We reply in plain English.

What happens when a campaign ID fails verification?

The submission routes to quarantine instead of writing to Salesforce. Nothing about the person is lost, it just waits for a human to confirm the right campaign.

Isn't Salesforce's own Web-to-Lead form good enough?

For a single simple form with no campaign attribution to manage, it can be. The moment attribution or Lead-versus-Contact matching matters, that's exactly where a generic form falls short.

Can Opportunity criteria differ by campaign?

Yes. What counts as qualified for one campaign doesn't have to match another, and each can carry its own rule set.

What if the same person submits from two different campaigns?

The person resolves to the same Contact either way, and each submission adds its own Campaign Member record, so both campaigns get accurate credit.

Is there an ongoing fee separate from the build?

Nothing extra shows up on a bill afterward. Your Salesforce licenses keep renewing on whatever terms you already agreed to, unaffected by this build.

Can historical submissions be pushed into Salesforce retroactively?

As long as those older entries are still stored with their campaign field intact, we can apply the exact same verification and person-matching logic to catch them up. It is also the answer to elementor forms to salesforce, sync elementor forms submissions to salesforce and elementor forms salesforce integration.
