BoldBellowsFlows with real events behind them

Squarespace to Klaviyo, with the events your flows are waiting on

Our Squarespace to Klaviyo service reads Commerce orders and checkouts through a read-only connection and writes them into Klaviyo as Placed Order, Started Checkout and Viewed Product events, the exact triggers abandoned-cart and post-purchase flows are built around. No events, no flow, no matter how well it's designed.

Chapter 01The silent-flow problem

A beautifully built flow that has never once fired

Klaviyo's flow builder makes it easy to design an abandoned-cart sequence in an afternoon. What it can't do is invent the Started Checkout event the flow needs to trigger, and without a sync reading that from Squarespace, nothing behind the scenes ever tells Klaviyo a cart was abandoned at all.

We had a perfect three-email abandoned-cart sequence sitting in Klaviyo. It had sent zero emails in four months, because nothing was ever telling Klaviyo a cart existed.

What tends to happen when a Klaviyo flow has no event behind it

A list with no events

"We uploaded a customer CSV once." A static list can receive a campaign, but it can never trigger the flows built around behavior.

No abandoned-cart signal

Squarespace doesn't send Klaviyo a Started Checkout event on its own, so the flow with the highest ROI in most Klaviyo accounts stays dark.

Profiles with no purchase history

Without order data attached, Klaviyo can't tell a first-time buyer from a five-time repeat customer, so win-back segments target the wrong people.

Before

  • Flows designed but never triggered
  • No Started Checkout event to build a recovery flow on
  • Profiles with no purchase history to segment against
  • Revenue left on the table from carts nobody ever followed up on

After

  • Every flow receiving the event it was designed around
  • Abandoned checkouts detected and recovered automatically
  • Profiles carrying real purchase history for segmentation
  • Recovery emails actually sending, and actually converting

Chapter 02How it works

Turning a Squarespace order into a Klaviyo event

Squarespace's raw activity gets translated into the exact event types Klaviyo expects. Nothing about your store changes; Klaviyo simply starts hearing about what's happening on it.

Your Squarespace site Orders, checkouts, product activity Read-only access The sync we build Shapes each event to Klaviyo's own schema Typed events Your Klaviyo account Flows triggering, segments filling in Your site Orders, checkouts, product activity Read-only access The sync we build Shapes to Klaviyo's schema Typed events Your Klaviyo Flows triggering, segments filling
Fig. 3. Activity flows one direction, from Squarespace into the events Klaviyo's flows react to.

Squarespace: observed only

The key issued for this build reads orders and checkouts. It has no path to changing a listing, a price or an order status.

Abandonment inferred, not assumed

Squarespace has no native abandoned-cart flag, so a checkout is checked at intervals and marked abandoned once it's genuinely gone quiet.

Klaviyo: fed, not flooded

An order id already written won't fire its event a second time, so a flow only ever runs once per genuine trigger.

Chapter 03The events

What Klaviyo receives, and what each event can trigger

Every event carries the fields a flow actually filters on. Which events you get is set by your package, and the details are open to your rounds of changes.

Chapter 04Who this fits

Built for the people who build flows, not just campaigns

If a flow you've already built has never fired, the gap is almost always the event feeding it. This is what closes that gap.

Founders and owners

Recover revenue from carts that quietly disappeared before, without touching a single line of the flows you already built.

Email marketers

Finally see real conversion numbers on flows that used to sit at zero sends for lack of a trigger event.

Klaviyo agencies

Stop losing client trust to flows that look perfect in the builder but have never actually run.

Product-based sellers

Back-in-stock and product-category flows that finally have real browsing data to work from.

Chapter 05The options

Getting real events from Squarespace into Klaviyo, three different ways

Plenty of options can add a subscriber to Klaviyo. Very few can supply the actual events your flows are sitting there waiting for.

Feeding Klaviyo real events: a basic signup form versus Zapier or Make versus a generic connector app versus a BoldBellows build
Question A signup form only Zapier or Make Generic connector app BoldBellows build
Sends Placed Order events Not built to touch Commerce data Possible, but needs careful setup Often, on a paid tier Yes, shaped for Klaviyo's flows
Triggers abandoned-cart flows No checkout data at all No native abandonment detection Sometimes, depending on the app Abandonment detected and written
Full purchase history None Only new events going forward Sometimes, on a higher tier Backfilled from day one
What it costs as orders pile up Free, but does nothing here Every event spends another task Around $20 to $80 a month, on top of Klaviyo One-off price from $500
Where it lives Your own Klaviyo account Runs through a third party's task queue Only as broad as that app's roadmap allows Nothing but your own credentials involved

Why a subscriber list alone leaves revenue on the table. A name and email address can receive a campaign. It cannot trigger a flow. Everything Klaviyo does well beyond broadcast email depends on events existing, and those don't show up without something actively supplying them.

InterludeFlows that actually run

Give the flows you already built something to react to

Set your events, segments and enrichment level in the configurator, and a price and go-live estimate appear right there. Two weeks covers most builds, less if speeding up the queue is worth it to you.

Pricing

Build your Squarespace to Klaviyo price

Pick a package, answer three short questions about your events, your segments and how the profiles should be enriched, and your price and go-live date move as you choose.

Choose your packageRequired

The three packages differ by which events reach Klaviyo and how deep the segmentation goes.

Placed Order events land in Klaviyo, powering post-purchase flows from day one.

  • Placed Order events written for every completed Commerce order
  • Line items, totals and product detail included on every event
  • De-duplication on order id, so a re-checked order never fires twice
  • A scheduled re-check on real cron that catches anything the last pull missed
  • Your own read-only Squarespace API key, never a shared public app
  • Handover notes (PDF) covering every event and property
  • Two rounds of changes once you see real events land

Checkouts and abandoned carts join placed orders, so recovery flows have something to react to.

  • Everything in the Order Events package
  • Started Checkout events detected and written for incomplete checkouts
  • Abandoned-checkout detection on a schedule you choose
  • Older orders pulled in too, not just what happens after go-live
  • Handover notes (PDF) covering the full event map
  • Three rounds of changes once it is running

Profiles enriched with purchase history, so segments and flows can target real behavior.

  • Everything in the Full Funnel Events package
  • Custom profile properties for purchase count, total spend and last order date
  • First-time versus repeat-buyer segmentation set up automatically
  • Product-category properties for anyone who's bought into a specific line
  • Near-instant refresh so a new event reaches Klaviyo within minutes
  • Handover notes (PDF) covering every event, property and refresh rule
  • Four rounds of changes once it is running

Several Squarespace sites feeding one Klaviyo account, custom flow-trigger events, or a segmentation model none of the packages above name. Tell us what your flows need to see and we will price it for your build.

Which events should reach Klaviyo?Required

Each event type you add is another part of the Squarespace API we watch and another Klaviyo event to build.

How should profiles be segmented?Required

Basic segmentation works for simple flows; behavioral segments unlock more targeted campaigns.

How much profile detail should Klaviyo hold?Required

More properties give your flows and campaigns more to filter and personalize on.

How soon do you need it live?Required

Standard follows the schedule your other choices set. Pay to move up the queue and go live sooner.

Optional extrasOptional

Each one begins switched off. Turn on what your flows need, watch the total, switch it back off.

Chapter 06The process

Six stages between a silent flow and a running one

Most of this build happens without needing you in the room. Your total involvement runs about 30 minutes, split between the opening brief and a short check once real events start landing.

  1. About 15 minutes

Brief: which flows are you trying to power?

Tell us which Klaviyo flows exist or are planned, and we work backward to the exact events they need.

  2. About 10 minutes

    Two credentials, handed over once

A read-only Squarespace key and a Klaviyo private API key, both set up following a plain-language guide.

  3. Most of the project

Event mapping and abandonment logic get built

Each event type is shaped to Klaviyo's schema, and checkout-abandonment detection is tuned to your actual store traffic.

  4. Before you see it

Test events run against a sandbox flow

We trigger simulated orders and checkouts to confirm each event lands correctly before it can fire on a real customer.

  5. Two to four rounds

    You watch real flows fire

A few days of live events gives you room to flag timing, wording or property names before things are locked in.

  6. Handover day

    Handed over, still firing

A PDF documents every event and property, and the sync keeps supplying Klaviyo without needing either of us to check in.

What we're asking of you: about 30 minutes, mostly up front

  • A Squarespace role that can generate a read-only API key
  • Admin access in Klaviyo to create a private API key
  • A list of the flows you want powered, or plan to build next
  • A short window to review once real events start showing up

Chapter 07Trust

Two keys, each doing exactly one job

Purchase history is personal information, and we treat it that way. Both credentials behind this build are scoped tightly, and either one can be pulled the moment you want that.

ProfileEvent j.o···Order m.d···Checkout l.k···View Read-only

Squarespace: nothing writable

Orders, checkouts and product activity are all this key can see. Changing store settings is outside its reach entirely.

Klaviyo key, scoped to what's needed

The private API key reaches profiles and events only; billing and account settings sit outside its permissions.

Individually named access

Anyone touching your accounts during the build is added under their own identity, never a login shared across the team.

Shut off in one move

Deleting a key from either platform's own dashboard ends the sync then and there, with nothing else to unwind.

Passed through, not stored

An event is read from your store and written to Klaviyo in the same motion; we hold no separate copy on our end.

No fee riding on top

The event logic runs against your own Klaviyo account; whatever Klaviyo charges for your plan is entirely separate from us.

"A flow that never fires isn't a small bug. It's revenue somebody already paid to build and never got to keep."

Chapter 09Questions

Squarespace to Klaviyo questions, answered

The questions that come up most before a build like this starts. For anything specific to your own store, put it directly in the quote request.

We already have subscribers in Klaviyo. Does this create duplicates?

No. Every event and profile update is matched against your existing Klaviyo data by email address, so an existing profile gets enriched, not doubled.

How does Squarespace's checkout process even signal "abandoned"?

It doesn't, natively. We check for checkouts that have started but not completed after a window you set, and only then write the Started Checkout event that most recovery flows key off of.

Can this tell first-time buyers from repeat customers?

Yes, with the Behavioral Profiles package. A purchase-count property stays current on every profile, so segments and flows built around loyalty or win-back actually target the right group.

We're on Klaviyo's free plan. Is that a problem?

Not for the sync itself. Custom events and properties work on Klaviyo's free tier; what changes at higher tiers is send volume and some advanced segmentation, which is between you and Klaviyo.

Does this cover events from before the sync went live?

Add the full historical backfill and it does. Past orders get written in as historical events, so profile properties like lifetime spend don't start counting from zero on day one.

What if a future Squarespace or Klaviyo update breaks the sync?

The sync health log shows a stalled run right away rather than letting it fail quietly. Add the aftercare package on top, and any fixing an update forces on us happens free of charge for the first three months you're live.

Does BoldBellows keep billing us after the build is finished?

No. It's a one-and-done build fee on our end. Klaviyo bills you directly for your own plan, entirely separate from anything we charge.

Flows that actually run, not just flows that exist

Stop losing recoverable revenue to a missing event. This sync gives every flow you've built the real data it needs to fire, checked against your own store and owned by you outright. Price it out yourself on the configurator, or hand us the details and skip straight to a quote. If you searched for sync squarespace orders to klaviyo, squarespace klaviyo integration and squarespace klaviyo flow setup, this is the service that delivers it.
